Aurel Sercu Posted 1 October , 2003 Share Posted 1 October , 2003 Trench, That period the 4/Middlesex was in the 3rd Division, 8th Brigade. On 19 July 1915 there was an action at the hamlet Hooge (= where Hooge Crater Museum is, and Hooge Crater Cemetery, east of Ypres, a bit beyond Hell Fire corner, and near Bellewaarde). Quoting the mother site : "At 7 pm on 19 July 1915 a large mine was exploded by 175th Tunnelling Company RE under a German trench. The spoil from the detonation threw up a lip 15 ft high, around a crater 20 ft. deep and 120 ft. wide. It was immediately occupied by 2 companies of 4th Bn. Middlesex." Was your man on 20 July KIA or DOW ? I'll find out myself right now (SDGW). Aurel Sercu, Ypres.

Do you know what number Pte Manning lived at? My Mothers family lived in Halifax Rd from sometime in the 1920s,perhaps my Mother knew some of his relatives if they still lived in the road after his death,I'll ask her next time I speak to her. Stu. p.s.does Dave and Jean(can't remember their surname)still live at number 34?
