Rosemary Clarke Posted 5 October , 2003 Share Posted 5 October , 2003 Not strictly for review but to raise awareness. Private Peaceful, written by Michael Murpurgo, Childrens' Laureate, is published tomorrow. It tells the story of two young boys serving on the Western Front, with a more than usually tragic ending. An extract from the book can be viewed at The Daily Telegraph website. I would have thought this would be ideal material for students studying WW1 as part of the NC, particularly prior to battfield trips. Ken Lees Posted 1 November , 2003 Share Posted 1 November , 2003 My 11 yr old son bought this book prior to our trip to France and Belgium last week. I will get him to review it when he has read it, for the information of others. Ken p.s. he says he wants to include this >>> don't ask me why! Ross Barnwell Posted 11 August , 2008 Share Posted 11 August , 2008 I read this book in a couple of days. Despite it being a children's book, some of the descriptions and emotions described are fantastic. It really does give a small insight into what the war was like for an underaged Tommy. Plus, with the twist at the end, it makes an excellent read!
