David_Blanchard Posted 8 October , 2003 Share Posted 8 October , 2003 could anyone tell me how big the 21st Division MGC was in May 1918? During the course of my research frequent mention is made of the 50th Div MGC and the 8MGC on the Aisne in May 1918, but very little mention of 21st MGC, I have a feeling that they were on the Aisne as three officers were taken POW on the Aisne, 27th May 1918 from this unit. Geoff Parker Posted 9 October , 2003 Share Posted 9 October , 2003 David 21st Battalion MGC was officially formed on 24th Feb 1918 and consisted of four companies. Prior to the forming of the MG Battalion, these companies were originally attached to their relevant infantry brigades of the 21st Div and were numbered 62nd, 64th, & 110th MG Company with 237th MG Company being the Divisional MG Company. Cant give you any more information at the moment as I'm at work but will see if I have anything else relevant this evening Geoff
Geoff Parker Posted 10 October , 2003 Share Posted 10 October , 2003 David I couldn't find anything else on the 21st Bn MGC. 21st Division were on the Aisne in May 1918 under French command so the MGC Battalion would have been there. Maybe Phil Mccarthy may have some further info Geoff
