Janus Posted 20 October , 2003 Share Posted 20 October , 2003 Has anyone got any information on how Sapper A G DAVIES 158410, 176th Tunnelling Coy., Royal Engineers who died on 15 March 1918, would have been killed.
John_Hartley Posted 20 October , 2003 Share Posted 20 October , 2003 Janus There's really only one way to possibly find out and that's to read the Coy's War Diary. It will give details of what happened that day but probably not in sufficient detail to identify your man as an individual. War Diaries are available at the National Archives. Alternatively, the Royal Engineers Museum is very helpful and will try to answer a query if you write to them. It's not easy or cheap for me to visit London so I try to use museums whereever possible for research. Most respond quite quickly. The RE doesnt. They kept writing to apologise for the delay but it took them about 9 months. Very full response though and well worth the £10 they charged. Greenwoodman Posted 21 October , 2003 Share Posted 21 October , 2003 Nothing about the 176th around that date is mentioned in either of the tunnelling histories.
