DaveNich Posted 27 October , 2003 Share Posted 27 October , 2003 Would anyone have the citation of Sapper David Price. He was blown up by an enemy mine on June 1st 1916. In a local paper of 1938 it states that he won the DCM. His son Private William John Price also won the DCM in 1936. Many Thanks David
DaveNich Posted 29 October , 2003 Author Share Posted 29 October , 2003 I have found out that David Price was with the 178th Tunnelling Company RE. Are there any experts in this field that would be able to confirm the location of the 178th Tunnelling Company in June 1916 and if he received the DCM? Many Thanks David
Greenwoodman Posted 29 October , 2003 Share Posted 29 October , 2003 They seemed to be working on tunnels in the Tambour in the Fricourt sector in the build-up to 1st July. Grive and Newman's "Tunnellers" say that the Tambour came in for a good deal of heavy shelling which closed mine entrances, but no mention of an exploding mine on 1st June.
