Samuel Short

I'm trying to find information about a relative, Samuel Short, who I'm told died during WW1.

The only information I have been able to find up to now is that he was born in Sunderland, Durham and was aged 6 at the time of the 1901 census.

Would it be possible to find further details in "Soldiers Died..." as I do not know in which regiment he served?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Only one man fits on Soldiers Died:

12649 Pte. Samuel Short, 2nd Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)

Born Monkwearmouth, Durham

Enlisted Hamilton

Residence Sunderland

Listed as "Died" 8th February, 1917

He is buried in Suzanne Military Cemetery No. 3, Suzanne, Somme.

Thank you very much for such a prompt reply!

I had checked on the CGWC site and had an S.Short of the Cameronians listed as a possible match.

Thanks again.

No problem. I should have mentioned that there are only three soldiers called Samuel Short listed in "Soldiers Died....." and that of the other two, one came from Birmingham and the other from Grimsby. So it looks as if 12649 Pte. Short is your soldier.
