Matt Dixon Posted 9 November , 2003 Share Posted 9 November , 2003 Can any of the Pals tell me about the above units? Where they their own regiments, or where they amalgamated into other regiments? Secondly, how many OTC's took part in WW1. Does anyone know of any books on this subject?

Matt Dixon Posted 9 November , 2003 Author Share Posted 9 November , 2003 Thanks Chris, what was the difference between Junior and Senior?
Terry Carter Posted 9 November , 2003 Share Posted 9 November , 2003 Seniors were at University OTC units and Juniors belonged to school OTC units
tintin1689 Posted 12 November , 2003 Share Posted 12 November , 2003 Most of the JOTC had been raised under local volunteer battalions, when the TF was created sponsorship of these cadet sub-units was removed from the successor TF battalions. Regimental links did remain strong. Cambridge Uni OTC had its own uniform in volunteer grey and must be considered almost a Regiment in its own right, it must have been the biggest OTC, certainly in the Senior Division. Glasgow and Stratclyde Universities were affiliated to local units. I have the histories of the Rugby School Cadets and The Cambridge University OTC if anyone would like further details. Jock Bruce Posted 12 November , 2003 Share Posted 12 November , 2003 Glasgow and Stratclyde Universities were affiliated to local units. Errrrr .. not in WW1. Strathclyde University only became such in 1964, in our period I believe it was the Royal Technical College. Jock
