Roy Evans Posted 10 November , 2003 Share Posted 10 November , 2003 I caught the end of this bulletin on the news this morning. I assume it's at Pilkem ridge? Roy
Annette Burgoyne Posted 10 November , 2003 Share Posted 10 November , 2003 I believe it's near to Turco Farm but do not quote me on that, if I am right, I am praying that they do not build the road here because the 1st K.S.L.I. re-captured trenches in this area, they got mentioned by Haig for doing so, also 6th K.S.L.I. hold this area. Guest lemon trench Posted 10 November , 2003 Share Posted 10 November , 2003 What worries me is that historians in the piece are quoted as saying that nothing would be gained from re-routing the building plans yet say that the whole area is riddled with trenches and un marked graves. If the plans go through we may be seeing more of these discoveries in the future which will only add to the knowledge of this period. However, from another perspective is this not defiling sacred ground ?
Myrtle Posted 10 November , 2003 Share Posted 10 November , 2003 There was an account of this on the news this morning. The reporter said that road building will start within the next two months !
Guest lemon trench Posted 10 November , 2003 Share Posted 10 November , 2003 In that case we must prepare for more discoveries. Did we all see the Cenotaph Remembrance march past led by the veterans in the Rolls Royce from the era. wasn't it wonderful !!!
