manxsapper Posted 13 November , 2003 Share Posted 13 November , 2003 My Great grandfather Manxman 89541 Sapper Thomas Richard Clague served with 97th field coy 21st Div from October 11th 1915 until he was discharged 11th April 1916 due to the effects of gas. I know that 21st Div was at Loos but can anyone tell me what the Div or this Coy did after this, i.e. where in the line they were? I would also like to hear from anyone else whose relative was in the 97th coy or any other coy within the Div. ANY info, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Greenwoodman Posted 13 November , 2003 Share Posted 13 November , 2003 97th Field Company remained with the 21st Division throughout the war. After Loos they were involved in the Battle of the Somme (01/07/16 to 01/10/16), of Arras (09/04/17 to 04/05/17), Ypres (29/09/17 to 10/11/17) and Cambrai (02 to 03/12/17). In 1918 the Division caught both the March Retreat on the Somme (21 to 24/03/18) and the April Retreat on the Lys (10/04/18 to 29/04/18) and then the Battle of the Aisne (27 to 31/05/18). And then the Advance to Victory from 21/08/18 to 25/10/18 on the Somme, at the Hindenburg line and in Picardy. They had a busy time
