8th MIDDLESEX

Can anyone help with what might be a very long shot – but quite an intriguing one – about the 8th Middlesex? A pupil showed me a Bible today which had an inscription which referred to its use to swear in twenty-two recruits to the “8th Middlesex Territorials” on 8 September 1914. Having checked Chris’ Infantry section it seems likely that this would have been the 2/8th formed at Hampton Court in Sept 1914.

I wonder who they were and how many survived? Is it possible to find out that sort of thing?

As my pupil said, it was quite eerie holding such a Bible and thinking about the men who had gone on from that moment to who knows what in the war!

Many thanks,

David

There are also two other men one of whom originally enlisted in the Rifle Brigade and the other who enlisted in Liverpool.

Hope this leads to some other clues.

Terry,

Many thanks.

I'll have another look at the Bible and see where its owner lived. Perhaps that will help.

Regards,

David
