MartinWills Posted 16 November , 2003 Share Posted 16 November , 2003 Mrs W's research notes record the following John Boynton Priestley was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, 13th September 1894, the son of a schoolmaster. After service with the local Duke of Wellington's West Riding and the Devonshire regiments 1914-19 he took advantage of the demobilization terms to obtain a place at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and graduated in Modern History and Political Science. He moved to London with his wife, whom he had married in 1921, to become a reader with the publisher John Lane.

David Filsell Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 I have on my to read pile "Margin Released" J B Priestley's "reminisences and reflections" first published in1962 and reprinted by (strangely) The Reprint Sopciety in 1963. Of the three sections, the second "Carry On, Carry On" covers his wartime experiences from 1914 -19. He records joining No 8 Platoon B Coy, 10th Duke of Wellingtons, served in France was posted to 16th Officer Cadet Battalion in early 1917 followed by commission into Devon regiment. The book is written in his usual delightful style. The section covers some 51 pages. Hope this helps
