Guest Hussar Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 A German Feldpostkarte for perusal. Sent by an Italian of 185a Compagnia, 2 Regg.to Genio of the 48th Division, in September 1916 I always assumed that Jackboots were Black, and what about the 'Dandy' in front? Were 'Pixie Boots' and 'Kerchiefs De' Rigeur for the Front Line? They have '106' on their eppaulettes. Those who are more aquainted with the goings-on of 'Harry Hun' may wish to comment
AOK4 Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 The card is a typical phantasy or patriotic card, I have a similar one. Also the colours are added afterwards, so these aren't the original colours. The Germans had brown leather equipment in the beginning of the war but everything was blackened later on. Adam Harland Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Strange that your Italian should give an Italian description of his engineer regt. If he was with a german unit, there was only the 48th Reserve Division in 1916 ( the 48th landwehr Div was formed in 1917.) The 48th Reserve was on the eastern front in Sept 1916. Was the sender with an Austrian unit, and were the soldiers allowed to use their native languages rather than German or Hungarian? Alternatively was it sent by an italian who had captured the card? AOK4 Posted 19 November , 2003 Share Posted 19 November , 2003 Adam, the card was indeed captured by an Italian soldier and sent by him. Jan
