Howard Posted 22 November , 2003 Share Posted 22 November , 2003 No doubt this has been raised before, but how many of the Old Contemptibles survived the whole war? Presumably it is equal to or greater than the number of members of the Old Contemptibles Association but I do not know that number either. Descriptions of battles in 1915 and later often say something like "the old regular British Army was all but wiped out" but some clearly survived to form the Old Contemptibles Association. My grandfather being one of them. I understand that approximately 378,000 Mons Stars were issued which gives the number that started but how many were alive on the 11th November 1918? Anyone know? Anthony Pigott Posted 27 November , 2003 Share Posted 27 November , 2003 see thread same name Units and Formations But that thread never answered the question and has now drifted off onto another topic. Does anyone know? It would be interesting. Regards Anthony
