27757 Pte George Bacon

Still trying to find my great grandfather' records. His name was George Bacon, from Derby. He went straight out to Mesopotamia - didnt go to France at all.

I have come across a 27757 Pte George Bacon, N. Staff Regt on the medal index. His medals are shown as:

Victory - F104B9 P936

British - ditto.

I think I am right in saying that the 7th North Staffs went straight out to Mesopotamia/Egypt area and didnt serve in France (same as my great grandad). Any ideas on how I can find out more about this particular George Bacon (his service record doesnt exist - neither does my great grandads). I presume the Staffs regt have a museum somewhere.

thanks,

Chris

Yes you're right, Chris. The 7th Bn didn't go to France. The were in Gallipoli, Egypt, Mesopotamia, and North Persia.

The Staffordshire Regimental Museum is at Whittington Barracks, just outside Lichfield.

I'm pretty sure 7th North Staffs have a battalion history.

Yes here it is

"The History of the 7th (Service) Battalion Prince of Wales's North Staffordshire Regiment 1914-1919" by L R Missen (Cambridge: W. Heffer & Sons Ltd., 1920).
