Does anyone know anything about R Binding who wrote A Fatalist at War published by Allen and Unwin in 1929? It was originally published as 'Aus dem Krieg.

From references in the text it would appear He served in a'Jungdeutschland division' in 1914 as a cavalryman. In August 1916 he became an ADC to a Divisional General.

He was present at the Capture of Brigadier- General Dawson on the 26 March 1918 see Edmonds, J.E.(Ed)Military Operations, France and Belgium,1918,The German March Offensives, IWM ,London pp.416-7 and may be the author of the diary quoted in Edmonds text.

Greg

Rudolf Binding born in Basel in 1867.Studied medicine and later law before joining up in 1914 at the age of 46. He spent the whole of the war on the western front apart from a 4 month stint in Galicia in 1916.

Apart from the recognised A Fatalist at War his collected war poems, stories and recollections were published after his death in 1938 at the age of 71.
