Chris_B Posted 5 December , 2003 Share Posted 5 December , 2003 Can someone tell me the significance (if any) in John Henry Storer's (Drake Battalion RND) number : Bristol Z/4855? Thanks, Chris Burge.
Terry Denham Posted 5 December , 2003 Share Posted 5 December , 2003 Bristol signifies the Home Division of the serviceman. The others were London, Mersey, Clyde, Tyneside and Sussex. At the end of 1914 service numbers were prefixed with a Z and they indicated a 'hostilities only' man. Neil York is definately your man with RND queries. Chris_B Posted 5 December , 2003 Author Share Posted 5 December , 2003 Terry, Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense as John Henry did not volunteer until Dec 1915 (possiby under the Derby scheme). Chris Burge.
