andyspiller Posted 10 December , 2003 Share Posted 10 December , 2003 Learned Pals My wife has just found this picture of her grandfather (taken c1918). Given the badge - indistinct on the original photo, black buttons and the fact that the family was from London - suggests to me the Post Office Rifles. Anybody care to comment. Kind regards Andy
Greenwoodman Posted 10 December , 2003 Share Posted 10 December , 2003 Charles Messenger's "Terriers in the Trenches - the History of the Post Office Rifles" has a number of pictures showing cap-badges, but with any kind of clarity to the photo the cutouts between cross and wreath show very clearly. Some illustrations which are slightly blurred do seem to be "filled in". So nothing conclusive to my very inexpert eyes there. Your photo does appear to show that the centre of the badge protrudes forward, more than the POR illustrations shown in the book. Again the observation of a non-expert. But I'm sure one of the more expert Pals will come to your aid.

charlesmessenger Posted 12 December , 2003 Share Posted 12 December , 2003 It doesn't look like the POR cap badge to me. Charles M
