If you search one of my postings, the unfortunate death of Frank is on a thread.

A very early enlistment in to the Leeds City Battalion and the first man to fall on the Western Front.

Best wishes.

Chris.

Cpl Frank Bygott , a second cousin of mine, was the first Leeds Pal to die in action and as some will know a casualty of 'friendly fire'. On the first night his company were in the front line, 30th March 1916, as acting platoon sergeant, he took part in some kind of raid on the German trenches some 200 yards in front of the battalion. By some mix up he was killed by friendly (MG?) fire on their return from the patrol. The Lancing College website has the letters sent by the CO, OC and Chaplain to his family. No doubt after 1st July 1916 the letters sent were much shorter. I hope to visit his grave in Auchonvillers next Spring.
