BeppoSapone Posted 9 April , 2007 Share Posted 9 April , 2007 Connaught Rangers? Wrong "legend" for the Connaughts. The Royal Ulster Rifles had a harp and Quis Separabit. However, the hunting horn is what is throwing me. I will have to have a think about it.
BeppoSapone Posted 9 April , 2007 Share Posted 9 April , 2007 I see you have posted while I was writing. Irish/Ulster Rifles would be fine if it were not for the "hunting horn", which I assume to be something like that on the bottom of the Cameronians badge. DrB Posted 9 April , 2007 Share Posted 9 April , 2007 Could be the officers pattern of the 8th Bn, Kings Regiment, Liverpool Irish, they had the motto, harp and hunting horn. Should be in WM but if in brass? Who knows.... DrB

tamos123 Posted 9 April , 2007 Author Share Posted 9 April , 2007 It looks like the RIR badge but the scroll ends are much longer and the horn sits between them - have tried to photo it but just does not come out well regards T
deejayuu Posted 12 April , 2007 Share Posted 12 April , 2007 Hi, the badge sounds like it is to the 8th (Irish) bn The Kings (Liverpool Regiment) as DrB has pointed out. Being a collector of headdress badges i have several sources of reference. Kipling and King Vol 1 describes this badge as being in silver plate and for the use by officers only. No other metals are mentioned in the book nor any of the other badge books i have refered to. I have attached an image of the badge i beleive you are describing. If this is not the badge, the only other badges i think fit the bill would be 19th centuary Irish Militia units. Hope this help, Dave
