Burniston Barracks, Scarborough

Hi,

A bit late on this one but I drove past the old site at the weekend. I also remember a two week cadet camp there in the 80's and I also went through the Army Careers Office there when I joined the Army in 1990.

I seem to recall that the Guard room had an integral clock tower and a veranda still in the 80s. The old MQs on the camp were very small and still on a cobbled street.

The above post about Scarborough Corporation buying some of the camp is still extant as the Council still own some old buildings (low one storey barrack block/stables or sheds) which surround a public carpark. So to that end the sale of part of the camp to the Council saved at least 6 buildings from the original Burniston Barracks from demolition. (At least they were still there on Sunday). A google earth search for Kinder Land, since demolished, should show the car park next to it.

I had heard that the remaining old buildings were due for demolition! Quick, slap a preservation on them.
