Guest Malk Posted 18 December , 2003 Share Posted 18 December , 2003 My grandfather Malcolm McGregor Phillips was commissioned into the above regt on 7th December 1917. I would like to find out a bit more about where he served and what battles he took part in. I believe he was wounded in the foot and possibly the head. Can anyone assist. Chris_Baker Posted 18 December , 2003 Share Posted 18 December , 2003 Or even better, try this page, on The Long, Long Trail. Try searching the London Gazette for the announcements of his being commissioned. Click here.
Terry_Reeves Posted 18 December , 2003 Share Posted 18 December , 2003 For what it is worth, the November 1918 Army List gives his seniority date as 28.11.17 Terry Reeves
Guest Malk Posted 19 December , 2003 Share Posted 19 December , 2003 Thanks for the prompt replies, there are obviously some seasoned experts out there. Hopefully this will give me the start I need. Regarding his date of seniority, you are absolutely right Terry; 28th Nov is infact the date contained within the actual commisssion although on the outside of the document it says 7th Dec. I presume this would be the date the document itself was written/issued. At the risk of pushing my good fortune ; I also have papers relating to a James Alexander Phillips or Phillips commisioned into 1st Bn The Monmouthshire Regt on 3rd July 1915. I was never aware of this member of the family until now and do not even know the relationship. Thanks again, Malk.
