isanders Posted 19 December , 2003 Share Posted 19 December , 2003 I would guess the S means Star. Either 1914 Star or the 1914-15 Star. 1914-15 Star Info 1914 Star Info Ian
Guest Jeff Floyd Posted 19 December , 2003 Share Posted 19 December , 2003 It's the 1914-15 Star. The 1/4th Lancasters landed in France in May 1915, so he would have qualified. Jeff Floyd
Yorts Posted 27 December , 2003 Share Posted 27 December , 2003 Hi, RM & RN medal rolls for WW1 have the abbreviation St. for Star. The abbreviation S is also used in the 'disposed of' column to denote that the medals were sent to the recipient direct, as opposed to any vessel or unit. In your case I have a feeling that 'S' does denote a star, but the above info may provide food for thought on other occassions, especially those with a nautical theme. Rgds, Alex.
