John_Hartley Posted 23 April , 2007 Share Posted 23 April , 2007 One of the few references I can find to the Bois is in the war diary of 17/Manchester but it gives no real clue as to where it was. I guess in the far back area some miles behind Maricourt (further back than a normal relief place). Must also be next to a river as my chap drowned in it on 2 June 1916 Anyone come across it? Paul Reed Posted 29 April , 2007 Share Posted 29 April , 2007 Sorry, I missed this John. Extract from modern IGN showing the wood in relation to village and river.
John_Hartley Posted 29 April , 2007 Author Share Posted 29 April , 2007 Thanks to both. Makes perfect sense now as the chap is buried at Chipilly. I'd been thrown by the statement on the CWGC site that it was used by field ambulance - so had rather assumed that he had been taken there in the hope that he hadnt actually snuffed it.
