stiletto_33853 Posted 29 May , 2007 Share Posted 29 May , 2007 Neil, Just a thought, have you checked WO97 at the National Archives, as I have found a few men there that were old Rifle Brigade, re-enlisted for World War, 1 but never went overseas going to the 5th, 6th or Depot. Did 21 years in the Rifle Brigade, re-enlisted 22-9-14 and was given the New Army number S-4718. Placed in the 11th Rifle Brigade then went on to be a Sergeant in a Training Reserve Battalion and then the 51st Graduated Battalion before going to the 5th RB. Served at home 22/9/14 to 16/2/19 but never went overseas during WW1. As you can see he has a TR number close to your relative, it looks likely that your relative followed a similar course so checking WO/97 could give you his old service papers and his papers after re-enlistment for WW1. Just punch in his service number 1499 and up come his papers including his WW1 papers (William James Bachelor) Class Z 14-2-19. If not let me know and I will download them and send them to you. Also family believed he came out 1908 not 1903 and there was a connection with Malta as his first wife was born to serving member RA there.
