Been meaning to post this for about 18 months!!!

In a box, with my Great Grandfathers medals (1, West Yorks), found B.W.M. inscribed, 43683, Pte. J.W.Smith.

Don't know what it was doing there, or anything. No links to the family at all.

Any ideas Pals?

Chris.

Chris,

I can't find him in either SDGW or CWGC so I presume he at least survived the war which always makes the search harder.

Chris

Are you saying that J.W.Smith definatley served with the South Staffords.

Looking at some service numbers of soldiers who were killed while serving with South Staffords (i'm no expert) no's 43679 & 43689 taken from SDGW were serving with the 2/6th Btn but that may mean nothing.

The only real way to find out is to have a look at his MIC.
