Chris Noble Posted 26 December , 2003 Share Posted 26 December , 2003 Been meaning to post this for about 18 months!!! In a box, with my Great Grandfathers medals (1, West Yorks), found B.W.M. inscribed, 43683, Pte. J.W.Smith. Don't know what it was doing there, or anything. No links to the family at all. Any ideas Pals? Chris.
Roy Evans Posted 26 December , 2003 Share Posted 26 December , 2003 Chris, I can't find him in either SDGW or CWGC so I presume he at least survived the war which always makes the search harder. Roy
Chris Noble Posted 27 December , 2003 Author Share Posted 27 December , 2003 Cheers Roy. Is there any way i could identify his battalion from his serial number. Regards, Chris.
Doug Lewis Posted 27 December , 2003 Share Posted 27 December , 2003 Chris Are you saying that J.W.Smith definatley served with the South Staffords. Looking at some service numbers of soldiers who were killed while serving with South Staffords (i'm no expert) no's 43679 & 43689 taken from SDGW were serving with the 2/6th Btn but that may mean nothing. The only real way to find out is to have a look at his MIC. Regards Doug
