Royal Engineer ww1: railways

I am into studying the Somme area and other WW1 theatres.

My Grandfather was a pre WW1 engineer and was in service through the WW1 s a driver or Engine driver supervisor.

His pay book shows him as a Locomotive Fireman to start. Then 15-7-14 as an Engine driver(Field) and then as an Engine Driver Field supervisor on 11-6-15. His next entry is Remustered engine driver (Steam) 1-1-22.

Then says Engineer Stores and Ledger 12-4-16 to 25-2-33.

He was in Gibralter 6-9-12 to 29-4-15

Home 30-4-15 to 21-6-15

BEF France 22-6-15 to 1-7-19 then served in Palestine, Turkey, Egypt until 1933 so did a total of 21 years.

I would really love to know where in France he was. I go to France on The Somme twice a year and this next year I am taking my father who is in in his late 70s to visit The Somme and I would love to be able to take him to an area where his father served.

In 2/11/14 he was attached to !st Company RE

On 28/5/14 was in 15 Coy RE

in 1915 a Postcard shows him as being in Mechanical Transport RE in Gibraltar

He is entitled to a 14-15 Star, War and Victory medal.

Anybody help???

You can try the War Diaires or else I know that the RE Museum has history sheets for almost all of the different companies showing where they where and what they were doing on different dates.

Cheers
