manxsapper Posted 3 January , 2004 Share Posted 3 January , 2004 I have a photo taken of my Great-grandfather taken at Newark, Notts in 1915 and the story goes that he first went there after joining the Royal Engineers. Also on his SWB information it states that he was discharged there, the place being Newark ETC. Does anyone know any info regarding this camp? Terry_Reeves Posted 3 January , 2004 Share Posted 3 January , 2004 Manxman This was one of a number of Engineer Training Centres set up after the outbreak of war to accommodate the needs of the fast expanding Royal Engineers. It was at Coddington Hall, some 2 miles East of Newark and there were at least 11 companies there. Apart from training, there was a holding and drafting company (my description) for men waiting to go overseas and also No 3 Cadet Company which presumably was for officers. Hope this helps Terry Reeves
