pjjobson Posted 7 September , 2007 Author Share Posted 7 September , 2007 Kiwi Bob What equipment did the Battery have? I don't think it was 18 Pdr. John John I agree, it doesn't sound like an 18 Pdr, I will do some research at this end and try and establish the items of equipment, although the Bush, Firing Hole, sunds more like something from smoothbore days. Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 7 September , 2007 Share Posted 7 September , 2007 On two gunners records this evening I have seen "RA & TC CD". Had your man recently come out of the line wounded or sick ? > Royal Artillery Training Cadre & Convalescence Depot < ? perhaps ? regards - Tom
johnreed Posted 7 September , 2007 Share Posted 7 September , 2007 It could be as the Royal Herbert Hospital was just up the road on the other side of Woolwich Common. John

I got the impression it was where they were posted, hence No.5 TMB, RA & TC CD. I think the Tank Corp one is correct. Kevin
pjjobson Posted 7 September , 2007 Author Share Posted 7 September , 2007 Kevin I would agree Royal Artillery and Tank Corps Command Depot does make sense, especially in light of the stamp on the documents. Phil
Kiwi Bob Posted 8 September , 2007 Share Posted 8 September , 2007 Hi John Yes all of the NZ Field Artillery use 18 Pounders QF. Each Battery had an A,B,C and D Gun
kevinrowlinson Posted 15 September , 2007 Share Posted 15 September , 2007 Hi Phil, Any idea on what DE LD or DESP may mean? These are in the records of 79037 Leslie Brooke, RGA. They are either a unit or depot he served at. I cannot find a nice rubber stamp to give any clues. I also have a note that he has no MIC, although he served with the 134 SB and contacted malaria. PeterFV Posted 10 April , 2022 Share Posted 10 April , 2022 Is there a definition of the term "sweep" which distinguishes it from "search"? All suggestions will be gratefully received. Peter Farrell-Vimay
squirrel Posted 10 April , 2022 Share Posted 10 April , 2022 Sweep means to increase/decrease width of beaten zone for a given distance. Say range 600m, sweep 100m, then 200m left, then 100m and 200m right and repeat as necessary Search means to increase/decrease depth of beaten zone similarly.
