Guest KLIFF SNOW Posted 9 January , 2004 Share Posted 9 January , 2004 Hello, I have recently been researching some Soldiers and came across one who had left the Army in 1913 after 12 years but would have been recalled in 1914, he was given the same regimental no. My own Great Grandfather, George Jennings 37987 RFA left for France on 19th August 1914 according to his Medal Roll, if he was a volunteer I assume he would have needed training and not just left for France two weeks into the war, would this be correct?. Does anyone know if it may be possible that he if he left the Army in 1909 up to early 1914 would he have been alloted his old number back?, and if this is possible how could I check this out, what records need to be searched for him. Nothing came up for him in the burnt documents at all. Also he probably had a reserved occupation working on the railways, so could have stayed out of the War if he so wished which either means he voluntered or was called back on reserve.
