cosmic Posted 6 September , 2007 Share Posted 6 September , 2007 hope this is the correct forum to ask this but it is something related to a book so .... i was reading the section on Hill 60 in John Giles' "Flanders Then and Now" book last night - there is an oblique photograph showing the area around Battle Wood and describing the "appalling wartime desolation" i cannot, for the life of me, work out in which direction this photograph is taken - i can make out certain areas of trees and even what looks like the Ypres-Comines canal in the top right (but i may be wrong) does anybody know in which direction the photo was taken and where Hill 60 would be located ? thanks in advance
KJames Posted 7 September , 2007 Share Posted 7 September , 2007 Hello, my guess, if it's the photo on page 120, is that it's taken from a bit to the right and further back than the accompanying picture on the same page, that is looking East from above the British lines with the British trenches bottom left, Hill 60 halfway up on the left and possibly the Menin Rd running across the picture at the top.
