PoW1988 Posted 28 September , 2007 Share Posted 28 September , 2007 Hiya everyone! My core text for my Great War module is Hew Strachan (ed.) , "The Oxford Illustrated Hidtory of The First World War", (2000) I am the owner of Strachan's similarly titled book "The First World War" I noticed that some of the chapter titles are the same between the two, when looking at my recommended reading for the module. Is there huge similarities between the two? Lynz
George Armstrong Custer Posted 28 September , 2007 Share Posted 28 September , 2007 'The First World War' is just the first volume of a projected three volume study of the war - the scale of that project is therefore vast. 'The Oxford Illustrated History of the First world War' is a heavily condensed version of the ground covdered by the former title(s) with pictures - so condensed is it that it may be seen as little more than chapter notes and highlights from the densely detailed three volume study Strachan is in the process of completing. Describing the Oxford book as the Reader's Digest version might be a good way of comparing the two! ciao, GAC
