nhclark Posted 3 October , 2007 Share Posted 3 October , 2007 I just wondered whether anyone is reading, or has read, "Defending Albion" by K. W. Mitchinson? I bought it because I wanted to improve my understanding of British "home defences" in the war, but I must say that I am finding it very hard going indeed. To me it's not really useful as a reference book at all, and it seems to be very much an "academic" text. As with many books, the index is superficial, I haven't come across a map yet, and there are certainly no lists of various units (for example, Protection Companies) and where they were stationed. I'm disappointed, but am I being over-critical? I wonder what any other readers think? Noel
owen4256 Posted 3 October , 2007 Share Posted 3 October , 2007 Noel I found it equally unhelpful. I had expected to see far more appendices in terms of organisation and deployment, in particular of the RDC and the Volunteer Regiments. I was still unclear at the end about which elements of the Home Defence forces co-exsted at which times and simple timleine at the back would have helped tremendously. I'm glad I only got it through a library loan. I could not recommend it as value for money. Owen
