World War 1914 -1918

Amongst my late grand mother's possessions were 2 volumes of "World War". Does anyone have any details of this publication? I remember my grandmother saying that this was a weekly magazine that her father had bound into 2 volumes. The editor's forward in Vol 1 starts "Twenty years ago...." so I assume they were published in about 1934.

The illustrations are a mixture of photos and artist impressions. Sadly the 2 volume are not in the best condition.

Many thanks in adavance for any help.

John

There are three official published volumes of this work "Twenty Years After" they were first published as weekly magazines and later brought together in volumes. The bound volumes are Vol 1 Vol 2 and Supplementary Volume. They illustrate the sites of the war "as they were" and 20 years after - they provide a fascinating insight of the war from people who were there. The official bound copies are fairly readily available - have a look on any second hand book site - if you wish to buy them. I think I paid about £60 for all three volumes.

Hi John,

Flagged up this site (below) for a similar topic yesterday - truly one of the top few Great War sites on the entire net:

http://www.greatwardifferent.com/Great_War/index.htm

Direct here to World War at the bottom, a typical weekly collectable looking back.

All these various periodicals are still relatively easy to find but truly fascinating none the less.
