Guest J.Woodward Posted 17 January , 2003 Share Posted 17 January , 2003 I was wondering if anyone could help me with this fellow. 2nd Lt Gillender was a company commander in the 10th Lincolns, their war diary states that he was mortally wounded (along with the other leading company commander Lt Cocks) on the 9th April 1917 as the Lincolns advanced on their final objective (the Brown Line) around 2.30pm on the first day of the battle of Arras and was replaced by 2nd Lt. A.J.Lodge. I have searched the CWGC records and can find no record of 2nd Lt. Gillender from the 10th Lincolns, the nearest is a Lt. A.W. Gillender of the 3rd South Staffords who was killed on 10 April and is buried in St Nicolas British Cemetary north of Arras. Could anyone tell me if this was the same man who had perhaps been transfered to the Lincolns? Lt Cocks who died with him was a 3rd Lincolns man serving with the 10th and is commemerated by the CWGC as being in the 3rd. Could this be the case with 2nd Lt Gillender?
