If it's "M1" then it's ASC Mechanical Transport Section.

"M2" are ASC electricians

If it's "M" on it's own,then you've got me on that one!!!!

Ive often wondered about those prefixes too.

I have the medals of a father and son, the father being entitled to a pair and his son a 15 trio. The father (both men were called Francis) has a DM2- prefix. I had no idea it related to his trade. Could you tell me what his trade was by his prefix?

DM is the prefix for a driver in the mechanised transport,ASC

From ASC 1902-1918 (M Young, Pen & Sword, 2000)

M/ = Mechanical Transport

M1/ & M2/ = Mechanical Transport, New Armies - M2/ discontinued Nov 16 (no mention of M1/ being discontinued)

DM/2/ = Mechanical Transport Learners - discontinued Nov 16
