Ferguson73uk Posted 3 November , 2007 Share Posted 3 November , 2007 As the result of my masquerading around town as an RAMC officer today (don't ask), I have been offered a nearly complete set of 'The Great War' magazines - just a couple missing of the 270 odd. Don't want to rip off the lady concerned so what do Pals think is a fair price? Jonathan
Guest tafski Posted 3 November , 2007 Share Posted 3 November , 2007 why not just ask her what she wants for them?? tafski
Ferguson73uk Posted 3 November , 2007 Author Share Posted 3 November , 2007 Guess I'm still hoping she'll give them to me but negotiations are at a sensitive stage. (I also think I'll be frightened at the cost - she was told they were worth £8 an issue. Gulp!) Jonathan
MartinWills Posted 3 November , 2007 Share Posted 3 November , 2007 I'm sorry to say that individual copies seem to sell on Ebay for something like £1.99 (often more; sometimes less). It may help to remember that they surface quite often in bound form - some 13 weighty volumes. I tend to think a common and fair price for the bound set id £65 (£5 per volume) though again I have seen them for less and for rather more. They do not appear in the book trade as often as they might because dealers don't like the sheer weight. The bound volumes obviously miss the covers out but are far more durable. They have also been transferred to CD-ROM by the family history folks. I hope that this helps. Which ones are missing?
Max Poilu Posted 3 November , 2007 Share Posted 3 November , 2007 Be interesting to know who told her they were worth £8 an issue! You should be able to pick them up at a fair for around £1 or so a copy.
