I'd be most grateful for any info that anyone has about C D Wells. I have been to CWGC. He got a commission in the Royal Lancasters in 1914 and transferred to RAF in 1918. Somewhere along the line he was awarded the MC.

Many thanks.

Best wishes,

David

Lt. Charles Douglas Wells MC was killed in action when engaged on an offensive patrol on 16 May 1918. He was the observer in a 62 Squadron Bristol F2B, serial No C4859. The aircraft was shot up in aerial combat, forced to land at Corbie where it was abandoned and shelled. The pilot, Lt C H Arnison was wounded.

Ltn H Kirschstein of Jasta 6 claimed a combat with a British fighter over Sailly-Le-Sec around the relevant time.

Lt. Wells was from Hempstead, Norfolk and previously served in the 7th Royal Lancasters. He had also been mentioned in dispatches.
