Dikke Bertha Posted 15 November , 2007 Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Does anybody know of any dedicated books on the French offensives 1917. I am aware of the book on Arras and Champagne by Yves Buffetaut but I am looking for something more detailed. Regards
Robert Dunlop Posted 15 November , 2007 Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Spears' book 'Prelude to Victory' gives a fantastic view of the build-up to the offensive, but not much on the actual battles. Robert
chrrip Posted 15 November , 2007 Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Pierre Miquel's book "Le Chemin des Dames" gives a very full account of the battle - published in 1997 by Perrin. But although written in French, it is not that hard to follow if you have some knowledge and a dictionary to hand. easy to follow particularly if you have seen the ground. regards Chris
Dikke Bertha Posted 15 November , 2007 Author Share Posted 15 November , 2007 Many thanks. I will have a look for Prelude to Victory as I enjoyed Spear's other books. I have tried reading books in French before but find the effort drains me so I stick with English versions.
