Anthony Pigott Posted 19 January , 2004 Share Posted 19 January , 2004 Dear All I've just discovered a relative (second cousin, once removed, I think) who died on 5 May 1917 and is buried at Mazingarbe. I'd be very grateful if anyone with access to SDGW could let me know what it says about him. Does anyone know what his unit was involved in at that time? Many thanks. Anthony Pigott Posted 20 January , 2004 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2004 Steve Many thanks for the information. I should have said 5 April 1917 on my original posting (the date on the CWGC database). Does anyone know what the 11th Essex were involved in just before then? I suppose 'died of wounds' can mean the action was some time before (?). Is there any implication in the particular cemetary, i.e., near a hospital, rather than taking direct battlefield casualties? Thanks in advance for any further info. Regards Anthony
Anthony Pigott Posted 20 January , 2004 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2004 Just realised that there's more than one cemetery at Mazingarbe - this chap is in Philosophe Cemetary, Mazingarbe - if that makes a difference. I should do more research before posting - apologies... Anthony
