Herbert went back to submarines after leaving the BARALONG and commanded E22 and K13 and survived the sinkings of both. He was a staff officer at Queenstown at the end of the war. He retired in 1920 as a Commander and became Managing Director of Daimler Cars. Returned to the RN in 1939 and was captain of the Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS CILICIA 1939-1943. Retired List 1943. Webb became Director of the Admiralty's Trade Division in 1914 and remained there until 1917 when he became captain of HMS NEW ZEALAND. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in October, 1918 and became Assistant High Commissioner at Constantinople. In 1920 he hoisted his flag as Rear Admiral 4BS and Second in Command of the Mediterranean Fleet and was SNO Afloat at Constantinople in 1921. He was advisor to the Greek Navy 1924/5 as a Vice Admiral and then President of the Royal Naval College and Flag Officer commanding the War College at Greenwich. For these services and services in action of 28th August ; Promoted to Commander 21.10.14. Was in contact with the enemy during the operations off his coast when he maintained his stations in a creditable manner during the exceptionally heavy westerly gales which prevailed between the 14th and 21st September. Service in the Heligoland Bight is keenly sought after by the Commanding Officers of the Eighth Flotilla and they have all shown daring and enterprise in the execution of their duties.
