Would it be too much to ask for another lookup in Westlake's Gallipoli :D .

My interest is which Bns of the Middx Regt were involved. The twins that I am researching were both Middx and one of the MICs says 2/10th Bn whilst the other just says Middx Regt. The formers date of entry 9/8/1915, the latter is 15/7/1915. Both state theatre of war as Balkans (2B) for the 1914-15 star.

Regards

Andy

Hi,

The Anson Battalion of the Royal Naval Division was made up of naval reservists, mainly members of the RNVR, not Royal Marines. The battalions of the RND that were made up of naval reservists were named after admirals, where as at this stage in the RNDs history the RM bttalions were named after their parent divisions. For example, the RMs fielded the Chatham Bn, Portsmouth Bn where as naval reservist fielded Benbow Bn, Hood Bn, Nelson Bn etc.

Rgds,

Alex.
