Guest alkens Posted 24 January , 2004 Share Posted 24 January , 2004 Hi, I was recently contacted by a relative that is trying to find our more information about her father, whom she hardly knew. She has asked me to search for any information/pictures of this man. I really don't know where to start, so I hope that you chaps are able to help me. Name: Henry Charles Englefield DOB:September 26, 1896, Park Lane, stratfield Mortimer,Berks. Son of Edward James Englefield and Elizabeth Quelch. Apparently he was a Marine, and was serviing onboard a ship in Jutland in 1916. Any, help/information/pics would be very helpful in my search. kindest regards Paul
AGWR Posted 24 January , 2004 Share Posted 24 January , 2004 Paul, As a good starting point, read the Royal Marine leaflets on the PRO Alphabetical Index of Information Leaflets. http://www.pro.gov.uk/leaflets/riindex.htm#R You could also contact the RM museum in Portsmouth: http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk Hope this helps. Regards AGWR PS Is that a picture of the greatest ever football manager ?
Yorts Posted 24 January , 2004 Share Posted 24 January , 2004 Hi Paul, Unlike army records, Admiralty records for Royal Marines who fought in the great war period survive at the public records office. AGWR is spot on with reading the PRO leaflets, but if you want a few more detailed pointers then PM off forum. What other information do you have abut him?] Rgds, Alex.
