IanA Posted 22 December , 2007 Share Posted 22 December , 2007 This work is in two volumes and I have had the second one for some considerable time. I was put off reading it because I hadn't yet found a reasonable first volume but, having time on my hands due to a slight illness, I started reading. I am surprised that this book has not had more exposure on the forum (I searched this section for 'Dewar' and came up with a blank.) It is extravagantly pro-Haig, scathing about Lloyd George and rather damns the French and Americans with faint praise but Dewar's statements are backed up with detailed accounts of the movements of both military and politicians and the book appears to be a soldly grounded history of events at the very top of the chain of command. I would be interested to hear the views of anyone else who has read this book.
