Guest Desmond6 Posted 30 January , 2004 Share Posted 30 January , 2004 One of those twists thrown up by research. two officers died on 22/11/17 - both were MC decorated - both from same town - probably knew each other. They are Lt. Thomas Sinclair Haslett (20) 10th Royal Irish Rifles . Son of the late Rev. Thos. Haslett, Ballymena and Captain William George Bruce Stewart 12th RIR (24) of Mountearl, Ballymena. Can anyone tell me where to get citations for these medals? I don't know if these men were awarded posthumous medals - but it would be truly strange if they received them for actions on the same day! Andy Shaw Posted 1 February , 2004 Share Posted 1 February , 2004 Des, Found the LG citation for Lt. Thomas Sinclair Haslett but no luck with Captain Stewart. Searching on line can be hit and miss and even though the results are there they cannot always be found. The date of the entry would not be the date of the action it was awarded for, sometime dates are mentioned in the citation but they could be listed some months after the action. You might be able to verify the action they were awarded for by checking the Battalion war diaries. The gazette online can be accessed at London Gazette. Gazette issue 29837, 24th November 1916 Temp. 2nd Lt. Thomas Sinclair Haslett R.Ir Rif. For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led a daring raid with great courage and skill, himself killing the enemy sentry and capturing three prisoners. He set a splendid example to his men.
