An officer of the Egyptian Labour Corps

Just came up against a new one, for me at least. A chap I am researching was commissioned from the ranks of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders into the Egyptian Labour Corps. His papers do not appear to be in WO338 or WO374 at the PRO, so I wonder - is there any other repository with papers to the ELC?

I have the papers for an ELC officer promoted from the ranks of the REKMR. They were found in the normal officers files (I can't remember if it was WO339 or WO374).

I'm not trying to be pedantic, but you do mean WO339, not WO338 don't you ?

As far as I am aware all ELC Officer records are in WO 339 or 374 if they exist.

Have you checked to lists at the NA to see if his file was retained because he continued his service?

If you want to let me know his name I will look to see if I have any reference to him from the War Diaries etc.

Yes, I did mean WO339.

Thanks for the info, chaps. I went through WO374 (even got out the two files to officers named H. Kay, but neither were him), and could see his entry in WO338. Unfortunately his long number is KA/131, which points at WO374.

I'll go throughh it again next time I go.

Ivor, thanks for the offer. His name is Hugh Kay. No middle names.
