Guest Pete Wood Posted 3 February , 2004 Share Posted 3 February , 2004 It is obvious from this letter that WJW is trying to reassure his parents that he is okay, and that if anything happens to him - then it is just fate. But you can see by the way he signs his letter and its tone, that he is just a young, homesick lad who has seen too much. I am still amazed at how most of these young and (often) inexperienced men managed to 'wear' two hats; the young military commander - brave, rough, tough, hard, keen; the 'loving son/husband' - protecting his next of kin from the every-day attrocities, trying to maintain a relationship from far away, trying to show that he/she has not changed. Never being able to lower your guard for long periods of time is a heavy burden on anyone, especially young and sensitive men like 'Willie.' I'm glad, too, you posted this letter, David.
