From the Long, Long Trail

5th (Service) Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry

Formed at Shrewsbury, August 1914, as part of K1. August 1914 : attached to 42nd Brigade, 14th (Light) Division. 4 February 1918 : disbanded in France.

SDGW shows that around a dozen men were killed in action in the 48 hours leading up to Sumner's death. But 'our' man was the only person to die on this day.

Posted on behalf of GREENWOODMAN

Daniel Sumner was a likely comrade of my wife's great uncle, 18126 Private A Birch of the 5th KSLI, killed in action 10/02/16 and also commemorated on the Menin Gate.

The 5th were in the Boesinghe sector at the time.
