BigT Posted 12 March , 2008 Share Posted 12 March , 2008 Can I recommend "Petain" by Charles Williams. Obviously the book covers his whole life from peasant to Marshal of France. However the section covering the time before & during Great War is a good insight into the French Army of the day. Also I have just started "Under Two Flags" by Max Egremont which is an biography of Major General Sir Edward Spears, who will be well known to any student of the Great War. he was of course THE liason officer between the French and British.
