ebo Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Any one able to help? I can't work out which battalion of the Dorsets my Great Uncle served with, but I know from my Grandfathers memoirs, ( he was 1st DCLI,) that they were both serving around Ypres in spring 1915. Apparently his battalion suffered heavy casualties during a gas attack and Grandad went looking around the new Dorsets graves to see if he was a casualty. He survived, but had no sense of smell for the rest of his life. Does this information suggest which battalion he was in?
CROONAERT Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Ebo. I think it was only the 1st Bn of the Dorsets that were in the ypres area at this time. Dave.
Terry_Reeves Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Ebo May Day 1915. Ist Dorsets were in the area of Hill 60 as were Ist DCLI, when this attack was launched. William Moore covers this action his book "Gas Attack", pp 50-51. Terry Reeves
