museumtom Posted 22 March , 2008 Share Posted 22 March , 2008 I put De Ruvignys Roll of Honour through its paces for the past couple of days and here are my findings. I used the war dead of Tipperary as the basis and there are over 1400 names. The index to De Ruvignys was brilliant and saved a lot of time and effort. Even though it is sparse only giving name, page and book number it cut the searching time by 90%. I found 7 Privates, 1 Lt Col, 2 Captains, 1 Lance Corporal, 1 Lance Sergeant and one Corporal, all casualties from Tipperary. I expected to find more officers than men and was sure the three Priests would be in there but they were not. I laid out the 5 volumes in order and the wife looked up the index while I read out the names from the war dead list. It was actually very enjoyable especially when we got a 'hit'. Armies were the Australians, Canadians, British but no Navy. There you go for what its worth. If you are going the same road the index is a must. Regards. Tom.
